Thank you for your interest in the Jack Meagher Institute of Sports Therapy. Since 1998 we have taught our program in Jack Meagher Method Equine Sportsmassage to therapists from four continents. Our graduates are counted among the finest and most skilled equine therapists in the world.
We teach two or three equine seminars per year as well as a several weekend seminars in Jack Meagher Method human Sportsmassage through massage therapy schools. (Inquiries invited) The instructors are primarily clinicians. This enables us to stay sharp and on the leading edge of the field. The equine classes are small with a maximum enrollment of 8 students. We accept only certified massage therapists with some horse handling experience into the program. We have also accepted PTs and OTs with exceptional manual training and skills.
The foundation level program described in this web site provides the massage therapist with the tools to begin an equine massage practice. A certain level of competency is assumed in massage theory and practice.
Graduates of the Foundation level program are eligible, after one year of practice, to take our Intermediate level seminar. This class offers the opportunity to expand ones knowledge of the work as well as study specific case histories. Several graduates have taken the Intermediate class more than once.
We also offer teacher-training opportunities in Jack Meagher Method Sportsmassage. Upon successful completion of both the foundation and intermediate level program a candidate can take the internship program which involves one on one training with myself and student teaching in a foundation level program. An advanced internship/apprenticeship may soon be available in JM Method Sportsmassage for Humans Athletes.
The Meagher Method Sportsmassage has been scientifically researched through a grant from the American Massage Therapy Association Foundation. JMI with Jo-Ann Wilson, the Principal Investigator of this grant, presented the research findings in the Massage Therapy Journal, summer issue 2002 (see www.amtamassage.org). The results of the research determined that the Meagher method induced a significant increase in range of motion and diameter of specific muscular structures. This evidence provides scientific support for the benificial effects of Meagher method on athletic performance.
I have committed the past twenty four years of my professional life to practicing and teaching this body of work. Under my direction, the Jack Meagher Institute is committed to passing on the legacy of Jack’s theory and techniques. Jack has put his reputation and good will in my hands and this is not a thing I take lightly. Enjoy the website and feel free to contact me with any questions.
